Aston University, situated just outside the centre of Birmingham, houses up to 5000 undergraduate students in purpose built student accommodation on campus. Students only had access to the Internet in the Halls Of Residence by means of dialup modem, and the University was keen to improve their access by the implementation of a campus-wide wireless network. Aerelink were commissioned to design and build a high capacity, wireless network across all 5 Halls, all tower blocks, ranging from 3 to 20 floors. We based the network on Colubris MAP 320 Access Points, with careful channel planning to ensure no interference, as 300 APs were deployed across the 5 buildings. To route this traffic to the centralized Internet feed and associated firewall and security devices, we designed and installed a short range laser backbone, to provide a fault tolerant, high speed backbone ring. Surveys started in the June of 2004, and despite several issues with factors such as asbestos and the difficulties of routing cabling in 20 storey tower blocks built in the 1950’s, full of students, the final Access Point was placed and tested in time for Christmas.
Brunel University
Aerelink have installed a large scale Cisco Aironet Wireless network on behalf of one of our Cisco Gold partners for Brunel University. Cisco Aironet 1200's were deployed across the campus to provide wireless connectivity.
James Watt College
Design, Installation and Maintenance Support of licensed and license free radio network, including a multiple hop link between Inverclyde and Ayrshire utilising third party mast structures. The solution is based on Ceragon Networks 1528i radio technology and delivers 100mbps end to end. This solution was pitched against traditional fixed leased line technology and the client has made significant whole life savings since solution ‘go-live’ in 2005.
Jeff Joseph Sale Moor Technical College
In partnership with a large systems integrator Aerelink have successfully deployed a 22 access point Colubris network for JJSMTC in Manchester by replacing their legacy Alvarion 802.11 frequency hopping system and mixture of various 802.11b/g access points that have organically been added to the network.
Thames Valley University
Thames Valley University have successfully connected three buildings across the campus using a combination of Gigabit and Fast Ethernet FSO systems which Aerelink commissioned on behalf of its system integration partner.
University of Birmingham
Aerelink have security and penetration testing for when the incumbent systems integrator turned to Aerelink for our expertise. Foundry Networks equipment was given a hard time when countless Penetration and Denial of Service attacks were simulated in an attempt to breach the integrity and security of the wireless LAN. The tests were required for the final stage of the proof of concept pilot before the wireless network is expanded across the campus.
University of Liverpool
Utilise many microwave radio links that were designed and installed to link many remote resource centres, halls of residence and the city centre administration offices with the main campus in Liverpool to provide data and voice connectivity.
University of Leicester
Aerelink have been commissioned by the universities incumbent partner to install a 5.8Ghz point-to-point link to provide internet backhaul for halls of residence on the university campus.
University of Luton
Aerelink have been commissioned by the universities incumbent partner to install 5.8Ghz point-to-multipoint equipment to provide internet backhaul for six halls of residencies on the university campus.
University of Wolverhampton
Working in strategic partnership with a major Cisco partner, WLAN installed in over 40 buildings across three main campuses to provide free wireless internet access in all halls of residence. Wireless LAN is available in the residences at Wolverhampton (City), Compton Park and Telford campuses. | | |
